Kliptown Youth Program and the “Trans-natal fun run”

30 May 2012 (4 days to go)

Well, there are only 4 days to go and the training is officially done after tonight’s gentle trot. Part I of the plan is done, and done well, and now all that remains is to execute Part II: run my guts out between ‘Maritzburg and Durban on Sunday! Sounds pretty simple, really!

Who are KYP and why should we care?

I thought you might want to know a little more about the Kliptown Youth Program. KYP’s mission is to eradicate the poverty of mind, body, and soul and to fight against the disadvantages imposed on the children of Kliptown, by providing educational support and after school activities. It seeks to develop young and dynamic individuals who are willing to contribute effectively for the betterment of their community. Read more at http://www.kliptownyouthprogram.org.

I am delighted to tell you that we have breached the R120 000 mark through your ongoing generosity. I believe that R200 000 is now within reach. This will mean that we will be able to buy more than one library!

The Travelling Library themselves have committed an additional R100 worth of books for every kilometer I run on Sunday – that’s R8 928 worth of books for the KYP library!

I have agreed with Wildlands to cap their receipt to R15 000, which is more than either they or I anticipated they would get, meaning there is more than R105 000 going straight to KYP

I am still hoping to sell the CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP rights – branding, naming, etc. on the unit. There’s been interest, but still nothing confirmed yet. I am confident that we can accommodate up to 4 different CORPORATE SPONSORS, each with their own branded Travelling Library. KYP’s needs are such that we will not run out of

Don’t forget that each R100 contributed earns an entry into the draw to win one of a bottle of Veuve Cliquot or a Chivas Regal 12YO gift pack.

Tracking your runner on the day

You can track runners in one of 3 ways:

1. Online via the Comrades Website. Here you can enter up to 10 numbers and you can then watch their progress throughout the day.

2. SMS the race number to 38132 and you will receive 5 messages throughout the day, tracking the runners progress. This costs R10.00 per runner (one race number per SMS)

3. Online Video Streaming. You can watch the race live on the Web by logging onto the race website

My race number is 41774.

All the best
