Gilboa Mountain Climb Weekend


For those of you who missed the 3 cranes this weekend, here is an invite from Andrew Booth, which will give you an idea of what it was all about:

Dear Trail Runner,

As trail running continues to grow throughout KZN event concepts seen elsewhere in the country are also being introduced. The mountain or hill climb has been seen around the world and appeals to many runners looking for a well defined challenge. Summiting any big climb is a great feeling that comes with a feeling of accomplishment. A speedy descent is then necessary for those concerned about time.

For those who don’t know, Mount Gilboa is the highest mountain in the Karkloof. The event will be based at Bushwillow Caravan Park (which also serves as the base camp for 3 Cranes) on the weekend of 6 and 7 April 2013 with the following format:

Saturday 6 April:

6.30am: Registration

7.30am: 12km Mountain Climb of the weekend to the top of Grey Mares Tale (the waterfall pictured above) and back.

8am: 5km trail run through forest and plantation.

9am: Breakfast

10am-3pm: Chill time

3pm: Registration

4pm: 10km Mountain Climb to the Base of Grey Mares Tale and back (headlamp required)

4.30pm: 5km trail run through forest and plantation.

6.30pm: Dinner

Sunday 7 April:

6.30am: Registration

7.30am: 18km Mountain Climb all the way to the top of Mt Gilboa (see in the pic above) and back

8am: 5km trail run through forest and plantation.

9am: Breakfast

10.30am: Prize Giving
